A Dream Destination Wedding

A destination wedding in an idyllic setting against the backdrop of a scenic beach resort is a dream come true for any young couple. Set in the Indian state of Goa, famed for its picture perfect beaches and golden sunsets, it was also a dream come true for many who were fortunate enough to attend this splendidly organised and flawlessly executed marriage ceremony.

Kudos to the families of both the bride and groom who left no stone unturned with their attention to detail and for choreographing a string of dramatic ceremonial events that eventually led up to the climactic taking of wedding wows or “saath phere” on the luxuriant green sunset lawns at the Cidade de Goa Beach Resort Hotel in South Goa.

A special mention to the Priest (pundit) who explained every step of this engaging Hindu ceremony with great detail and with a healthy dose of humour which only made it all the more captivating and thought-provoking.

As is the case with all weddings I’ve attended, I enjoy taking a few photos for posterity and to capture the event for myself and in this case for my niece (the bride) and the family as well.

Coming to a gun fight armed with a butter knife is something I’m used to. My weapon of choice for weddings is my trusted 50mm, however, in the face of 70-200mm tele-zooms, I had to bow out graciously and let the professionals do their job. The best I can do in situations such as these is shoot from behind the last man in the queue and hope for the best. It would have been impolite of me to stick my head in and ruin their shots. Furthermore, shooting outdoors has a whole set of lighting challenges all on its own.

All in all, it was great to catch up with relatives, lots of fun, laughter and occasional tears of both joy and sadness. I almost did not make it to Goa for this fine spectacle of matrimony but I would not have missed it for the world. Everything was over far too quickly and at the end of it, we all wished for more. Looking at the pictures now, I’m glad I can rewind and re-live these snapshots in time.
